StarScan Dub (Turntable)

UPDATE 2018-May-28: I've uploaded the firmware source+hex, thing file "StarScan_FW.zip". Compiled using IAR, it can be easily adopted as the source is straightforward. Note that stepper driver management isn't the best, but it was sufficient for my needs. UPDATE: I've also uploaded the StarScan Brain (controller module). While there's limited information on how to build one, you can check out the StarScan in action and view the attached videos. To be honest, StarScan Dub is not just a Scanner - it's a Turntable designed to capture all those photos. The reason I built this device was clear: designing devices that combine pre-built modules takes up a lot of time, and I hoped that the StarScan project would allow me to create 3D models automatically using modern photogrammetry software. Unfortunately, my hopes were unrealistic - there's no software available for this purpose. Despite this setback, I'm thrilled that the StarScan is alive and can be used for any turntable purposes. The StarScan Dub is based on a Nema17 42mm stepping motor (200 steps per round) that I already owned. It uses a widely available 16-teeth aluminium GT2 gear as the pinion, and a 3D printed 90-teeth GT2 main gear. A 200mm (100-teeth) GT2 belt is used to connect the two gears. You'll also need a 608ZZ ball bearing, an M8 bolt, an M8 nut, and some M3 screws-nuts (nyloc nuts). The table surface is made from a D180 round glass for the Kossel 3D Printer - I had ordered a D220 size glass initially, but received a smaller one first. The correct-sized glass was later delivered, so I didn't know what to do with the first one. All parts were printed using PLA and a 0.3mm nozzle/0.15mm layer (I prefer longer print times for higher quality output). You'll need three copies of the "GlassHolder.stl" file. The flat holders can be used to fix the glass in place using clips, which are not shown in the photos. The only additional device needed to complete the turntable solution is a Controller that pulses the Nema17 and remotely controls the Camera to take all those shots. I've designed one with many settings (such as Camera Type, Shots per round, microstep size, rotation speed, and time delays for the Camera to save photos), but I'm not sure there's enough time to share them all. Maybe later if I have time to design a Controller case! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. PS: The StarScan Dub legs are FOLDABLE to minimize storage space! I really hate devices that consume a lot of space and have fragile parts that can be easily broken when storing them in a cramped room. That's why you can remove the glass, the big 90-teeth gear with belt, fold the glass holders, and store everything anywhere. Printer Settings: - Printer: Heavily modded Anet A6 - Rafts: No - Supports: Yes - Resolution: 0.15 - Infill: 30
