Starminx II (deep cut face turning dodecahedron)
thingiverse
This clone is a fully functional replica of the MF8 Startminx II puzzle. Number of parts to print: - 1 x Core - 12 x Inner (Megaminx) Center - 30 x Inner (Megaminx) Edge - 20 x Inner (Megaminx) Corner - 30 x Outer (Pyraminx Crystal) Edge - 60 x Starminx Point - 12 x Outer Centers You will also need 12 x 0.5 x 4 x 10 springs, which can be purchased on Aliexpress, and 12 x M3 x 20 screws with a small head. For printing, I recommend splitting each piece into two halves, printing them separately, and then gluing the halves together. This technique allows for printing without supports. The split pieces are identified by an 'Split' infix in the file name. If you prefer to print normally, I have also included 'As Is' parts. For other print settings: - Use a 0.3mm or 0.4mm nozzle - Set layer height to 0.1mm (0.2mm is also acceptable, but may require more sanding) - Print with 2-3 perimeters and 20% infill - Cool as needed - Do not use supports for the 'split' version I recommend using ABS plastic, which is easy to sand. PLA and PETG will also work well, but they are much harder to sand. ABS can be glued with acetone, while PLA/PETG work well with dichloroethane. The Core piece has a few throughholes that need to be filled for precise positioning of the halves and to improve inter-layer adhesion. Simply glue pieces of filament into these holes. Printed and glued pieces may require some sanding to remove surface imperfections and glue seams. After sanding, outer pieces can be painted with spray paint. Finally, cut stickers as needed. I was able to learn from this and understand how to design other similar puzzles (Starminx II is technically a subset of Pentultimate's mechanism).
