Stargate Inspired Arduino NeoPixel Clock
thingiverse
The 3D clock dial and base take inspiration from Techno35's work found at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:49627. The Stargate DHD clock showcases time using NeoPixel LED’s arranged around a simulated clock face. This timepiece offers an hourly and half-hour chime that can be turned on or off. The hours and minutes are adjustable via pushbuttons located on the rear of the base. A center crystal on the DHD clock lights up for one minute at every hour and half hour, provided by a color-changing RGB LED. The hour is represented by a NeoPixel LED switching to red, while the minute is shown by a NeoPixel LED changing to green. The seconds are depicted as the NeoPixel LEDs switch to blue as they increment. This makes reading the clock very intuitive. As the seconds increase, each LED will change to a blue color. The Red (Hour) or Green (Minute) LEDs won't be overridden by the Blue seconds LEDs. The clock is 3D printed and relies on one Arduino UNO, four NeoPixel rings, and a real-time clock. The dhd dial was resized for printing on a Lulzbot Mini printer, while the dhd base underwent significant modifications to house the electronics. .stl files are included for the dial, base, ring sections for mounting the NeoPixels, crystal LED mount/cover, base cover, and crystal lens. The entire clock was printed with HIPS filament except for the crystal lens, which used clear ABS. The clock is painted, making any color filament suitable.
