Starfury - Babylon 5

A model of the Starfury space fighter from Babylon 5 has always been desired by me. However, a previously purchased resin kit was warped. Most models available either lacked detail or had details that did not print well, and were also too small. I found this particular model to be perfect with a size of 27cm and intricate details. It printed comfortably within the build volume of my Afinia printer with minimal support required for most parts. The creation of this model was done using MODO and Mesh Fusion, referencing a model originally by Willian Vaughan. To assemble, all parts are oriented as if assembled, so adjustments in orientation are necessary before printing. Parts to print and attach include the central body (nose up), two left guns and two right guns (attached to slots on sides of the body, with upper pair requiring slight force or shaving for placement). Next, wings (rotated for flat trailing edge) and engine cowls matching each wing are printed and attached. Following that, thrusters (nozzles pointing upwards when attaching) - four forward and four rear - are printed and attached, aligning flanges to axes. Eight struts (printed twice as strut_x4) are required, attaching to rear thruster flanges along a 45-degree angle making an X. Lastly, 4 large fins and 4 small fins are printed and attached, with the large ones pointing out and the small ones pointing in. The small fin was easier to print vertically inside a box, while the large ones were tricky due to their thinness. Superglue was used for attaching these fins for convenience.
