I just downloaded an awesome ATAT from TimRBsnow, and my kids absolutely loved it! They then asked where the snow speeder was so they could tie their legs, and I started worrying that the Empire would destroy the Hoth power generators too quickly for Han and Leia to make a safe escape. Feeling brave, I decided to design my own. This was my first non-mechanical design, and it came out about 90% well, except for the front. My kids were super excited because they wanted to put all the action figures inside the cockpit - they thought Daddy's design would open up, of course! So, I reassured them that it was cleverly designed to do just that and went back to work on creating a hinge in place opening cockpit snowspeeder. I'll try printing this out tomorrow and see how the hinge-in-place idea works out. Hopefully, someone with more skills than me can redesign the front - this is supposed to be a supportless print (the cannons are supported, but it might easily snap) or maybe even printable on its back. This design is very loosely based on the originals and is limited by my abilities with design software. If you download this don't be stingy, I worked hard on it, so give me credit if you like it too... Update: Uploaded version 2 with much more detail and a better attempt at the front... Update2: Needed a bit of support under the cannons, and the cockpit didn't open, so addressing both issues in V3. I'll try printing it tonight... Update3: The cockpit opens with some struggle, patience, and an exacto knife; however, the hinge pins are tiny and don't hold. I'm redesigning the pins to make them bigger and removing the support between the cockpit to make it easier to separate. The relief and detail went from 1 to 2 mm, and the result is awesome - supports on the guns print flawlessly! Also, unless you're a total idiot or were locked in a cave for 30 years, you know I don't own or hold any rights on this Star Wars vehicle, nor do I pretend to. Just having some fun Disney - no need to get bent out of shape over it.
