Star Wars Rebellion Magnetic Ring Base
thingiverse
Star Wars Rebellion includes several detachable rings that can be attached to leaders, but these are tricky to attach and remove during play. I designed a simple base that the ring can snap onto, allowing each leader to be magnetically attached and detached with ease. There is approximately one millimeter of space between the top of the base and the bottom of the leader's clear plastic base piece. I utilized a small three-millimeter washer glued to the leader's clear plastic base. The printed base features a hole that provides a secure friction fit for a ProMag 0.25-inch (6.4 millimeters in diameter by 3 millimeters high) neodymium magnet, which is press-fit into the base. When inserting the magnets, it's essential to ensure all N/S poles are oriented in the same direction; this way, the rings will stick together as a stack. I've opted to reverse the polarity between rebel and imperial rings, causing them to repel each other but allowing them to stick together if they belong to the same light or dark side faction – a clever use of magnetic force! You can find the STL file units in millimeters. The washers used in this project can be purchased at Lowes here: http://m.lowes.com/pd/The-Hillman-Group-25-Count-3mm-Zinc-Plated-Metric-Flat-Washers/999996640 The magnets employed can be found online or at your local Michaels store here: http://www.michaels.com/promag-neodymium-magnets/10413548.html I'd like to extend my gratitude to Jooice ZP on Board Game Geek for suggesting the innovative idea of using magnets to attach these detachable rings.
