Star Wars Light Switch Plate
thingiverse
I made a custom Star Wars light switch plate for my son's bedroom using glow-in-the-dark ABS plastic for the upper layers. The design features a 3D-printed Death Star and Tie Fighter with a starry night background, all visible when he flips off the lights. I had to remove some material from one side of the STL file because our old house has really wide woodwork around the door frame, and it wouldn't fit without modifications. The actual model isn't altered here, but looking at real pictures will show how much narrower the right side is compared to the original design. To make changes for your own switch's size, I'd suggest adjusting the STL file accordingly. If you're having trouble with a snug fit, just modify the dimensions and give it another shot! This model was made using Tinkercad - feel free to edit it online at tinkercad.com/things/h9785qTWZPh. Printing settings: Don't worry too much about rafts or supports; they don't make a big difference in this design. I used 20% infill with supports enabled and a super-fine resolution of 2 mil. Note that I paused my printer at the 28th-29th layer to switch from regular filament to glow-in-the-dark filament - you might need to experiment with your slicer settings for optimal placement. Oh, one more thing: if some of the star details print incorrectly on your printer, don't panic! This happens a lot, especially when removing supports. Your design will still look fantastic despite this issue. Enjoy creating!
