Emperor's Supreme Security Squad Helmet The Emperor's Supreme Protection Unit, sometimes called the Imperial Sovereign Guard or Palpatine Protectorate, was a top-tier fighting force within the Galactic Empire's military machine (specifically the Elite Imperial Corps) created to safeguard the Emperor, Palpatine. Palpatine rarely went anywhere without his own private team of Superior Guards by his side, so often that they normally escorted him to both his personal quarters and office within the massive battlestation known as the Death Star. The actual number of Superior Guard members assigned to protect the Emperor remained a mystery, with rumors floating wildly from fewer than sixty to tens of thousands, but it's believed their numbers hovered around four hundred or more at any given moment. Just like the special operatives of the Elite Imperial Corps, the Supreme Guards functioned as a standalone military detachment independent of the larger Imperial Armed Forces and took direct orders only from the Emperor himself.
