Star Wars Chess Table
thingiverse
“May The Force Be With You” The iconic movie series, Star Wars, has been part of popular culture now for 45 year. Movies, TV series, Animated Series, Toys, Books and Merchandise; there are a multitude of ways to experience being a Star Wars fan. I myself am a Star Wars nut and have been since I queued for 2 hours to see Episode IV at my local cinema in 1977. I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched that movie now (it’s way over 100) and I’ve amassed a vast collection of merch and related items over the years. Once I got into 3D printing it was only natural that I’d print Star Wars stuff but usually other peoples’ designs. I’m just getting into trying a few of my own now and thought I’d do something a bit different than things I could buy. Now, as 3D printing enthusiasts you may well have at some point been aware of the IKEA Lack Printer Enclosure. I’ve made and am still using a version of this myself and they’re great. I now have a few printers and with each one I try and build a decent and different enclosure, but with the latest I thought of the Lack again. So, I bought a couple and got ready to build but; I then changed my mind and went in a completely different direction. Anyway, I’ve gone off track here! The point is I had 2 spare IKEA Lack side tables so what do I do with them? The answer; make a Star Wars Chess Table! So, I set to and calculated the optimum size for each square (6x6cm) and then the borders came naturally after that. With chess being a black v white game it was a perfect fit for the Dark v Light side of Star Wars. As you can see from the pictures, I separated the board to represent the 2 rival factions and went with blue and silver for the border with red/white and black/white for the squares. Some decent glue and it’s all done. The whole project took about 2 weeks from design to completion but I’m pretty pleased with the result. The complete files for the board itself are available here but obviously you will need to buy an IKEA Lack table to mount it on. I hope you enjoy it and check out some of my other designs as I make them available. Here's what you'll need to print: 64 x Plain Square Tiles 4 x Plain Border Tiles 2 x Imperial Seal Tiles 2 x Rebel Insignia Tiles 3 x "THE" Tiles 2 x "SIDE" Tiles 1 x "LIGHT" Tile 1 x "DARK" Tile 1 x "MAY" Tile 1 x "FORCE" Tile 1 x "BE" Tile 1 x "WITH" Tile 1 x "YOU" Tile
