Emblem of the United Federation of PlanetsThis is the emblem of the United Federation of Planets (UFP), as known from the various Star Trek series. The version used is the most common one, which I am aware of, and was typically used in Star Trek - The Next Generation (TNG).Design VersionsThe emblem comes in two designs: a curved one with a dome-shaped centre, bevelled rings and branches, and a flat one. The original size is about 35 x 27 cm.All parts from both versions can be mixed. The original outer ring diameter is scaled to fit on a Bambu Lab printer, but rescaling it slightly small should be working fine. In a smaller size, some details may require thin wall adjustments in your slicer.Hints for PrintingThe pictured model was printed with a Bambu Lab X1C in Bambu Cobalt Blue Metallic, Iridium Gold Metallic and some white PLA – without contour compensation adjustments. All parts were glued together.Top Surface QualityAs the soft slopes of the curved design can be challenging for printers, I recommend using a minimum top shell thickness of 1 mm or more and an infill pattern without overlapping lines. This usually helps avoid rough surfaces.TolerancesThe tolerances should be working fine for most printers. If you want to be on the safe side, you can easily adjust the fit by applying a small negative X-Y Contour Compensation value to the stars part. The fit between the dome and rings should be loose enough to avoid issues.Printing the BranchesTo arrange the individual elements of the left and right branches properly, both use a thin support structure that can be glued to the centre part. To make the support as unobtrusive as possible, I'd recommend printing the first layers in a transparent material or one that matches the intended background.If you want to place all elements individually, you can remove the supports by trimming the first 1 mm of the branches and the ring base.Happy printing, and live long and prosper!
