Star Trek TOS Tricorder

Here is a remix of the awesome Original Series tricorder designed by Wythkyn. It was reworked to assemble easier and look closer to the original prop. The parts all connect with notches and cutouts to align everything. The black parts are smooth so you can texture with paint if you want (I don't know how to model them with the texture yet). It uses 6x2mm magnets to secure the doors and flip top. It also features a medical hand scanner that fits into the lower compartment.

Stand included.

Supports are needed for lid housing (4) and very minimal support is needed for side edges of lower door (24). Everything else should print support-free.

Part options:

Plain grill (9a) option so you can use infill to gain a nice mesh pattern of your choosing. To do this, set it to have 0 top layers, 1 perimeter, set the infill pattern to something like Line or Rectilinear, and increase the infill density to 50%. You can adjust the infill angle too.

Scanner-1 (26a) option intended for vase mode to be more transparent if using clear filament.

Combined (17a) memory discs and rack for convenience.

Hollowed screen (5b) that is intended to print tilted for better quality appearance. Print at .15mm layer height for best results. It has built-in removable supports or you can just fold them back. Highly recommend using this version if you aren't going to use graphics.

Flat screen (5a) for adding graphics.

Advice for printing some other parts:

The moire disc looks best if you enable 'Detect thin walls' or equivalent setting in your slicer, or by using smaller nozzle. I printed mine in two colors, black first then swapped to silver which came out looking perfect. Highly suggest using color swap for it.

The memory discs should be printed at .15mm layer height for best results with the steep sloping edges of the rings.

fullcarbonbike remixed this to be more accurate, check out their files here: https://www.printables.com/model/170858-star-trek-tos-tricorder-remix/files

PLA filament colors used were:
Ziro silk silver
Ziro dark gray
Overture matte black
CC3D silk antique gold
Clear and clear blue colors were from a generic sample pack

Here is a guide that explains how color swapping works, at least with Prusaslicer: https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/color-change_1687
