This model is a close match to the TNG tricorders found in later seasons, it's considered a science tricorder. The hinges are functional but they require some fiddling to get right. Credit goes to @thenewdominion for the decals; you'll need to scale them based on your paper printer if you want to print them out correctly. By downloading this model, you're agreeing not to sell any version or derivative version of it. Click on "I made one button" if you actually make a working tricorder from this design. The body may be a bit misshapen but it's the best free online model I've seen so far, and it was my first attempt at creating something like this. Print Settings: Printer: New Matter Mod-T Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: .05 or best Infill: 20 Notes: The shell is 2 mm thick. Processing the tricorder involves several steps: 1 Sand it down using a 220 grit sandpaper. 2 Spray Rustoleum autobody car primer of your chosen color and then sand again. 3 Repeat this process, slowly decreasing the grit size until you're finished with a fine 600 grit sandpaper. 4 Add decals to your tricorder and use paint pens for the sensor grid.
