Star Trek Discovery Phaser kit
thingiverse
This is my initial attempt at creating a prop kit, and I'm aware that there will be many inaccuracies. I was generously provided annotated photos of a prop, and I plan to create a more accurate version with cavities for electronics installation. The phaser is scaled to fit my hands, which are quite bulky. The actual prop measures 9.25 inches, whereas this one measures 10.5 inches. You may want to scale down the kit by 5% or 10%. Addendum: I was informed that scaling the parts down to 87% will bring the overall length to 9 1/4 inches of the original prop. Tolerances are quite tight, so expect a lot of sanding and fudging. I also designed the Type-1 phaser grid to flip up with a turn of one of the thumb wheels. However, my design was lacking, which resulted in some issues with the prototype I printed. If you want the grid to flip, it will require significant work on your part. Alternatively, you can simply glue the grid into place. If you're planning to use this for cosplay, I recommend adding reinforcement to the "Handle" and "Back" pieces. Since this is my first posting here, please let me know if there are any issues with the STL files. I'll do my best to correct them as soon as possible. UPDATE: I was not satisfied with the Type-1 Phaser, so I rebuilt it to make it more accurate, thanks to some images and dimensions that were sent to me. You will find the updated Type-1 phaser files in the New Type-1V2v zip file. There has been a change in how the parts go together. I have not made the instructions yet, but I'll upload them soon. I'm also making changes to the Type-2 phaser and will upload those files when ready. UPDATE: I made changes to the Type-2 phaser to correct some inaccuracies (didn't get them all) and added a few more moving parts like the emitter, trigger, and stun/kill switch. I also made the power switch in three parts so you can print the part on the knob that lights up in clear filament or mold and cast it in clear resin. The new files are in the New Type-2V2.zip file. I also added updated instructions in the Instruction.zip file. Oh, the files are also scaled up slightly too large. Scale all the parts down to 87% to make the phaser the same length as the filming prop.
