Star Trek Discovery Communicator
thingiverse
I asked my mechanical engineer son to design the communicator from Star Trek Discovery. This is his take. I like how the Discovery prop designers kept the essential elements of the communicator from The Original Series but made it a bit more square and bulky. All the pieces are in the orientation in which I printed them. The lid-frame will need supports, and I printed the grip with a raft. I printed the body, grip, holster, and holster-clips in black; the lid-frame, lid-cover, and chevron in gold; the dials and dial-bar in silver; the display-disk in translucent blue; and the display-box in translucent red. I printed the panel in black and then paused and switched filament to gold for the top. You'll need to print two holster-clips and three dials. And you'll need a couple10mm M3 bolts and nuts to attach the holster-clips to the holster. When you assemble the pieces, make sure you put the lid-frame pins into the body first. Then glue the lid-cover onto the lid-frame. If you glue the cover to the frame first, you won't be able to attach the cover to the body. Also glue the display-disk, display-box, and dials into the body before you glue the panel on. The panel fits over these pieces.
