Star Nut / Grip for Dumbbell
thingiverse
This special star-shaped nut is commonly used for gripping weight wheels onto dumbbell rods. Printer Settings Printer Brand: RepRap Printer Model: Graber i3 Rafts: No Rafts Supports: No Supports Resolution: 0.2mm Layer Height Infill: 30% Filled Recommendations: Print with no support, use a medium to large wall thickness and infill for improved resistance. A minimum of five walls is recommended (including top and bottom), as well as 30% infill for optimal results. When printing in ABS or polycarbonate, use a slightly higher level of infill if necessary. I highly recommend using a strong filament when printing this design, such as ABS or polycarbonate, for improved durability. Printing with PLA may result in a brittle part, which could potentially break. Use at your own risk! Custom Notes I created these nuts after experiencing issues with loose fittings on my dumbbells at home. Since the exact measurements of these star-shaped nuts were not readily available online, I took matters into my own hands by using a caliper to measure the dimensions and tweaking the design multiple times (a total of eight iterations) until it fit perfectly on my dumbbell rods. Given that most dumbbells appear to use similar screw sizes - including pitch and spiral direction - I am fairly certain this design will work for other brands as well. If you are looking to replicate these nuts, please feel free to modify the included code using the public domain library polyscrewthread.
