Star Map in Braille

Star Map in Braille

thingiverse

This star map was created as part of an installation by ITEDA Mendoza to promote astronomy for Tecnopolis science fair in Argentina, supported by FOPAA (Fundación Observatorio Pierre Auger Argentina). The challenge of this proposal was to create a 1m diameter star map that can be used by both visually impaired and sighted individuals, allowing the recognition of what can be observed with the naked eye for a specific month, day, and time. The star map contains visible stars without a telescope for the southern hemisphere, represented according to their magnitude, and allows the identification of constellations from the names printed in Braille. The model was divided into several pieces for printing on a standard 20cmx20cm printer. See the part reference image when assembling the printed pieces.
