Star 45 RC sailboat frames layout- STL and STP
prusaprinters

I used John Fisher’s Star 45 rev. 5 DXF files to generate a 3d model of the Star 45 frame layout as it would sit on your building board. I also used his fin and rudder (1/8" rod) DXF files for the foil plates.

His rev1, rev2, and rev3 versions are similar, so this should be fine for those as well.

You can use this as reference to get oriented as to where the laser cuts parts should be located. It is a fairly close to accurate model, since all the 3D solids are built from the laser DXF files, but the actual frame layout presented here should not be considered 100% accurate.

I used this site to host these files because of the STL viewer feature found by clicking in picture gallery above showing the blue 3d frame layout. By clicking on the icon in the corner of the window, you can open an STL viewer that will allow you to zoom and rotate the model. Also, most Windows and Mac computers have software already installed or apps available to allow you to view downloaded STL files from this website on the desktop.

Most CAD software will allow you to split up the STL mesh into the component parts if desired (use the "split disjoint mesh" command or similar).

The STEP (.stp) file includes the 3d frames and laser cut pieces. It also includes all the lines used to create those shapes. This set of lines was the real work in this project, as every one of them had to go through a conversion process from a laser-cutting format to one that would allow me to derive solid objects from them.

In the hands of a knowledgeable CAD/CNC user, these files contain some useful components to use as jumping off points.

This is just my first run at the Star 45 design in 3d. I would like to take the Star 45 CAD designs even further into the realm of 3D, possibly working towards a fully CAD rendered boat, complete with full hull, rigging, sails, and radio gear. This project seemed like a logical first step and it also allowed me to create something that may be useful to the Star 45 community.

Enjoy!

More Star 45 info: https://www.theamya.org/boats/star45/ https://groups.io/g/Star45

Print Settings

Printer:

Ender 5+

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Category: R/C Vehicles
