Here is what happened: My Stanley Fatmax Miter Saw Laser Guide Cage failed after a shard of wood it struck while cutting shattered the plastic case, disabling the laser guide. To replace it, I designed and 3D printed this sturdy metal cage to securely hold the laser in place on my miter saw.
