Created between the 8th and early 9th centuries, this masterpiece originates from Thailand or Cambodia, showcasing Prakhon Chai style craftsmanship. Crafted from bronze, intricately inlaid with shimmering obsidian, this stunning sculpture stands at an impressive 30 1/2 inches tall (77.5 cm). Recognized as a sculptural work of art, it holds a prominent place within the museum's collection. Acquired through the Harris Brisbane Dick Fund and Joseph Pulitzer Bequest in 1999, accession number 1999.90 proudly identifies this magnificent piece.
