My very first sword was a crude yet potent tool, forged from a chunk of weathered steel that I had salvaged from the nearby scrap heap. Its hilt, crafted from a piece of worn leather and some twine, felt coarse against my palm as I grasped it firmly in hand. The blade itself was roughly tempered, its edge a jagged line that seemed to gleam menacingly in the flickering torchlight. It may not have been the most elegant or refined sword, but it was mine, and with it by my side, I felt a surge of confidence that I'd never known before.
