Students create a stand-up map display of a country for a Culture Fair. This project builds on previous work done in collaboration with students last year. Full details can be found in the accompanying PDF file. Lesson Plan and Activity: Steps to Follow: Search the internet for a map of your chosen country. If you find a monochrome map, convert it into an SVG file using a free online image converter. Using keywords like "clip art," "outline," "silhouette," and "black and white" will increase your chances of finding a suitable map. If the map is not monochrome, insert it into Google Drawing and use the line tools to trace the outline. Delete the original map image and download the tracing as an SVG file. Import the map SVG file into Tinkercad and set the height (z direction) to at least 10 mm. Add a rectangular base to the map so that it will stand up when printed. Include the name of the country on the base or on the map. If your map consists of multiple pieces, connect them together with rectangular beams. Embellish the map by using the Text Generator or adding shapes that hold cultural significance. Import images using the same method as for the map. Double-check that all parts are connected and the height (z direction) is 10 mm or greater. Print your model and decorate it with markers or paint. Materials Needed: None.
