I liked the original design, but wanted to add magnets to keep it in place in a metal cabinet. I thought a re-design would be needed, but as luck would have it, I had a bag of magnets on my desk which fitted exactly in the hexagonal holes in the base!. Sweet! :-D

The base and the “lid” encasing the magnets are only a single layer, 0.2 mm, thick, otherwise the magnets would not fit. No alteration of the original .stl was required, the extra bits were all done in Prusa Slicer.

My magnets were 8 mm diameter by 4.5 mm in height. In theory, the magnets can be 4.6 mm high, and possibly a fraction of a millimetre larger in diameter, but not by much. It was a pretty snug fit!

For this remix, all I did was to add disks from the gallery and then scale and place them to encase the magnets.

Use the .3mf file if you want to put the magnets in a different place, change the number of magnets, or if you have a different size (smaller) magnets and want the fit to be good for them.

Print instructions:

Print the right way up with…

0.2mm layer height

0.4mm nozzle

Any suitable filament

15% infill (I just used the default, I am sure it will work with other alternatives as well)

No supports

Both the .3mf and the G-Code files have a pause inserted for when to add the magnets. This is done after 3 hours and 27 minutes of print time.

Since I have a MMU2 unit, I have also included the G-code for a single-colour MMU2 print, i.e. only one material and no tool changes.

As the first picture shows, it passed the vertical test for the magnets… It stayed in place on the outside of the cabinet door :-)

Thanks to:

Chewy, for the model I based this on, and any previous designs he based his on.

The same license has been used as for Chewy's design, please do the same with any further remixes, as to keep the license as originally intended.
