Ancient lore speaks of Asclepius, the revered Greek deity of medicine and restoration, who walked this sacred rod to Minos' palace, where the Cretan king requested he revive his deceased son. The path unwinds with an entwining snake, its slumber broken by Asclepius' unwitting hand, which struck the life-giving staff, condemning the creature's rebirth into oblivion. Then emerges a serpent bearing grass, which works in counterbalance to restore life anew within its mate's dying body, freeing them both from life's fleeting hold on death's cold fingers.
