Stadtmodell Freiburg

For the 2019 Freiburg Hackathon, I managed to obtain a model of the downtown area of Freiburg. I asked someone to convert it into a printable *.stl file. Freiburg celebrates its 900th year in 2020 and this model is perfect for anyone who wants to take a little bit of Freiburg home. I hope to publish a file of the entire city soon. I obtained a *.stl file of the downtown area of Freiburg from the Open Data Team of the city during the Hackathon, but unfortunately, I didn't have time to print it out. So, a few days later, I visited the fab lab and tried printing it out. Unfortunately, it wouldn't print. I couldn't understand why, but even with the 3-D printers at the public library, it didn't work out. I left the project alone for a while, then came the Make Magazine and suggested that I write an article on "beautiful living with 3D printing." So, I spent a lot of time browsing websites like Thingiverse and Cults3d. These sites offer services to optimize files or design things. The LoD2 (Level of Detail 2) corresponds to the second stage of development of 3D building models. Buildings in LoD2 have more details, the terrain is maintained, but no trees, cars, or people are included, and the roofs match. However, some details at the cathedral, the Bertholdsbrunnen fountain, and clearly defined Dreisam bridges are missing. The model has a scale of about 1:2035. I hope that in the future, using these relatively quick-to-print models can make it easier to participate in citizen participation procedures, present building projects or urban development measures. Not least because we have a member on the Building Committee who cannot see. More information: https://sbamueller.wordpress.com/2019/10/27/i-3d-print-freiburg/
