Stackpole Syncline, Pembrokeshire, SW Wales: A Region of Folded Carboniferous Limestones Shaped by the Variscan Orogeny. Tectonic forces molded this area during the Carboniferous period, a time when ancient limestones were subjected to intense pressure and heat. The resulting folds can be seen in the virtual outcrop, a 3D representation of the terrain generated from 220 high-resolution aerial photographs captured by a DJI Phantom 3 drone. This digital model offers a unique glimpse into the geological history of this region, where the Variscan Orogeny left an indelible mark on the landscape.
