Stackable Planetary Gear Mechanism (Reducer)
thingiverse
This is a fully functional hand-cranked model of a multi-stage planetary reducer that truly delivers. The photos and video show this model in action, featuring 3 stages each with a gear ratio of 1:6, resulting in an overall gear ratio of 1:216. The design allows for limitless stages, but due to the physical demands of hand-cranking, most users will find that 3 stages is the practical limit. Even the most enthusiastic cranking efforts yield barely noticeable movement from the output shaft. You'll need to print: --- PER MODEL--- 1 front plate 1 handle 1 shaft --- PER STAGE--- 1 ring 3 planets 1 carrier 1 sun 6 washers Hardware includes: 2 Metric countersunk Phillips-head M3-12 screws per model 2 Metric countersunk Phillips-head M3-12 screws and 2 Metric M3 nuts per stage Assembly Instructions: Attach the sun to the bottom side of the carrier with two Phillips-head M2-12 screws and two M2 nuts (easily sourced on eBay.) The hexagonal holes in the sun should be facing outwards. Mount three planets onto the carrier, securing each one with a washer. Insert the carrier with the planets and sun attached into the ring. The sun goes in first. Attach the ring to the front plate (for stage 1) or to the previously installed ring (for stages 2, 3, etc.) Make sure the sun is pushed firmly into the following stage's planets. Secure the ring with three washers. Once all stages are assembled, insert the shaft through the hole in the front plate and push it hard. Attach the handle to the shaft and secure it with two M3-12 screws. The other parts do not require a raft. How I Designed This
