Stackable C-Rotor Vertical Wind Turbine VAWT
thingiverse
The C-Rotor is a VAWT whose origins are shrouded in mystery. A comprehensive documentation can be found on www.daswindrad.de, although it's limited to German language only. You have two options: either print the bottom part once and use the cover, or alternatively, print multiple bottoms and stack them at a 60-degree angle, reserving the cover for the uppermost portion. I've opted for the latter approach, using two bottoms and achieving smooth rotation in my garden even on relatively low winds. To assemble the C-Rotor, I employed semi-liquid cyan acrylate glue to bond all parts together. It's designed to work with 608 ball bearings (8mm rod, 22 mm outer diameter, 7 mm high). However, I've chosen to use only two bearings and forego the central bearing to prevent mechanical stress. The bearing covers offer some protection against rain. A comparison between the C-Rotor and Ugrinsky Rotor in my garden has yielded interesting results. While I haven't conducted any measurements or load tests, observing them over time in various wind conditions has led me to conclude that the Ugrinsky outperforms the C-Rotor. It begins spinning at lower wind speeds and generates higher RPMs. Although the C-Rotor is an intriguing design, the Ugrinsky stands out as a superior option in my opinion.
