St Peter

Seated figure of St. Peter, clad in a majestic cope, holds keys firmly in his right hand while cradling an open Bible in his left. As the leader of the apostles, he stands out as a prominent figure. Born Simon, a brother to St. Andrew who introduced him to Christ, Peter rose to become the first bishop of Rome. From ancient times onward, Peter has been revered as a universal saint and guardian of heaven's entrance, symbolized by the keys. Originally painted with vibrant hues, this sculpture likely stood in a church on a console or ledge between nave columns, surrounded by flickering candles.
