St. Peter and a Prophet
myminifactory
This relief once formed a pivotal part of a multi-part altarpiece, and its placement on the right-hand side was almost certain, joining seamlessly to the central panel. Its companion piece (7390-1861) would have been situated alongside this relief and positioned furthest from the central panel, due to St Peter's consistent depiction at Christ's right hand. Both reliefs were acquired in Naples during 1860, having initially lain face-down within the Jesuit church before being carefully removed by a skilled stone mason. The artist responsible for crafting these masterpieces remains unknown, but it is highly likely that he hailed from either Rome or Naples.
