St.-Oswalds-Kirche - Dudelskirche
sketchfab
One of the attractions of the place is the ruins of St.-Oswalds Church, often referred to as "Dudelskirche" in local parlance. According to historical records, Abbot Gregorius Küttner of Grünhain and Annaberger mayor Wolfgang Messerschmidt laid the foundation stone for the building in 1514 (or possibly 1515). However, it remains unverified whether the church was ever completed or used as a chapel. Since the dissolution of Grünhain Abbey in 1536, the church has been in decline. A legend claims that wealthy iron and mining lord Caspar Klinger built the church as atonement for murdering mountain lord Wolf Götterer from Elterlein. According to myth, on the day of its consecration, a lightning bolt struck the building, killing Klinger. In February 2008, artist Peter Rehr from Scheibenberg created a wooden memorial cross in front of Dudelskirche.
