Michael is mentioned three times in the Book of Daniel, where he is hailed as a "great prince who stands up for the children of your people". The notion that Michael was the advocate of the Jews became so deeply ingrained that, despite rabbinical prohibitions against appealing to angels as intermediaries between God and his people, Michael eventually took on a prominent role in Jewish liturgy. In the New Testament, Michael leads God's armies into battle against Satan's forces in the Book of Revelation, where he emerges victorious over Satan during a war in heaven. The Epistle of Jude specifically refers to Michael as "the archangel Michael", cementing his status as a key figure.
