Piazza San Marco is a public square in Venice, Italy, known to locals as la Piazza. This iconic space is often referred to as St Mark's Square in English. The city's urban areas are designated as either campi or the Piazzetta and Piazzale Roma, which are distinct from the main Piazza. The Piazzetta extends the Piazza into the San Marco basin on its south-east corner. Together with the Piazzetta, the two spaces serve as the social, religious, and political hub of Venice. They are often regarded as a single entity.
