The St. Louis Cardinals are a prominent professional baseball team based in St. Louis, Missouri, competing fiercely in the National League (NL) of Major League Baseball (MLB). Their state-of-the-art Busch Stadium has served as their home turf since 2006. The team's rich history dates back to an earlier local NL squad from whom they inherited their iconic name, the Brown Stockings. St. Louis solidified themselves in 1882 as a founding member of the American Association (AA), shortened their moniker to Browns the following season, and then seamlessly transitioned into the NL in 1892. The team was also known affectionately as the Perfectos before finally adopting Cardinals as their official name in 1900.
