St Joseph's Cathedral holds prominence as the cathedral church of the diocese of Groningen-Leeuwarden, also boasting one of the central churches of the city center of Groningen within its parish, specifically that of St Martin. The ingenious design is accredited to architect PJH Cuypers alongside significant contributions by his son Jos Cuypers. Built between 1885 and 1887 in a neo-Gothic style, St Joseph's Cathedral was consecrated on May 25, 1887.
