St John The Baptist
myminifactory
The British sculptor Arnold Machin crafted this sculpture of a young, nude John the Baptist in prayerful repose. The soft contours of his figure are strikingly contrasted with his piercing gaze, a deliberate choice that reflects Machin's own experiences as a conscientious objector incarcerated for much of 1944. "Themes of vulnerability and spiritual salvation may have held profound personal significance for him, mirroring the concerns of a global society embroiled in war" (According to the Tate Britain gallery label, September 2016). Born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1911, Arnold Machin passed away near Eccleshall in 1999. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from around the globe for public access free of charge.
