St James Church Grave
sketchfab
A weathered grave marker stands upright in St James Church, Tong, West Yorkshire. The current church was constructed in 1729, but archaeological evidence suggests earlier places of worship existed here as far back as Anglo Saxon times. Architectural elements from these ancient buildings have been skillfully integrated into the existing structure. This lone limestone memorial is a standout feature in the churchyard, its deterioration evident for all to see. The top surface has delaminated, obscuring the inscription and making it challenging to decipher. Initial research suggests that the earliest burial dates back to 1790.
