St Jadwiga's footprint, Kraków
sketchfab
Behind these bars lies a poignant reminder of Queen Jadwiga's compassionate gesture, etched permanently in the wall of the Church of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, also known as Na Piasku, in Kraków, Poland. Above it, an inscription boldly declares "stópka Królowej Jadwigi" (the little foot of Queen Jadwiga). According to enduring legend, the Queen had been so moved by a stone mason's desperate plea for aid that she took off her gold-encrusted slipper and handed him a clasp from it. As the story goes, this act of kindness was commemorated when the stone on which she stepped was removed and installed in the church in AD 1390. In October 2016, a photograph captured the footprint, now marked with annotation number 1, courtesy of 3DF Zephyr's exceptional capabilities, which successfully distinguished the bars from their background.
