St. George
sketchfab
St. George stands proudly, crafted around 1500 by the skilled artisans of Lübeck's "imperialissima workshop". Originally, these figures formed the centerpiece of a grand altarpiece. Today, they reside at Tystrup Church on Sjælland in Denmark. The National Museum of Denmark proudly displays them in Copenhagen. God himself sits enthroned, cradling his martyred Son. On one side stands St. George, lance at the ready, while opposite him is St. Lawrence, holding a gridiron that once held such dark significance. This gruesome relic recalls the fate of St. Lawrence, a devoted Deacon who met his end in 258 AD amidst a fiery death in Rome's crowded streets.
