St George Slaying the Dragon

St George Charges Forward on Horseback, Dragon at His Lance. A bronze equestrian figure stands proudly in a public space, a rarity in 14th century Bohemia. This life-sized sculpture was originally placed atop a fountain in Prague's royal palace courtyard. Hungarian artists Martin and George of Kolozsvás/Kluj likely crafted the masterpiece with Peter Parléř's expert guidance as architect (1330-1399). The plaster replica, acquired by the Museum in 1864, showcases their ambition to display European monumental sculpture masterpieces.
