The original St. George's church was torn down between 1813-1814, along with its two additions. Constructed of brick in 1815, a brand new church rose from the ashes, perfectly aligned with the Fredericksburg grid that exists today. Unlike its predecessor, this second church was not situated "caddy-corner" but rather straight ahead on the grid. Unfortunately, no known images of this second church have survived the test of time, leaving us to rely on Mutual Assurance policies which offer basic materials and dimensions. Based on these limited resources, an artistic interpretation of the church's overall design was created, drawing inspiration from other churches in the area that dated back to the same period. The style of this new church was also influenced by buildings constructed by George and Robert Ellis, two highly skilled builders who made significant contributions to Fredericksburg's architectural landscape during that time.
