This is a stunning original wood sculpture depicting St. Catherine, a revered Christian saint and virgin. Martyred in the early 4th century at the hands of the pagan emperor Maxentius, she remains an enduring symbol of faith and resilience. As documented in her hagiography, Catherine was both a royal princess and a highly educated scholar who converted to Christianity around age 14. Through her tireless efforts, she successfully converted hundreds of people to Christianity before being martyred at just 18 years old. Notably, more than 1,100 years after her martyrdom, Saint Joan of Arc famously identified Catherine as one of the saints who appeared to her and offered guidance during a pivotal moment in history.
