St Anne and the Virgin Mary
myminifactory
Saint Anne, from David's family and lineage, was Mary's mother and Jesus' grandmother, as described in apocryphal Christian and Islamic texts. The canonical gospels and Quran do not mention Mary's mother by name. In written records, Saint Anne's name and that of her husband Joachim appear only in the New Testament apocrypha, specifically in the Gospel of James, which is estimated to have been written around 150 AD. Modern Orthodox Christian scholars argue that the names were included in the Gospel of James because they were well-known figures within the Christian community where the work was composed.
