SSC Tuatara - Nic Adams
grabcad
Wow, another awesome competition, thank you GrabCAD and SSC for depriving me of so much sleep. I currently dream in disparate planes and 3D splines :| In all seriousness, I would like to thank Jerod for giving all of us the opportunity to work on such an iconic design. Jason Castriota and SSC really have sculpted the ultimate wedge missile. For my design submission, I’ve tried to be as dramatic as possible while still maintaining a feasible and ergonomic interior. Of course, given more time I would have liked to refine some design elements, but I at least feel it’s at a point where the style is congruent enough to accentuate a few unique elements I’ve displayed. Hopefully I can squeeze in some detail renders before the deadline, but I’ll point some out here: Instrument binnacle features multiple canards on a single deck mounted stalk. All dials follow a classic, utilitarian, aircraft instrumentation design of bold white on black. Center console modeled after an aircraft fuselage, sectioned in the middle. Wrap around carbon sandwich dash finishes shoulder high for a snug cockpit feel. (Roof and shoulder-line is my best guestimate from pictures) Laser based HUD display integrated into steering column. Steering wheel and seats feature elements inspired by the Shelby family crest. Golf ball, dot pattern used for speaker vents. Dyson Airblade type central air vents on ball mount for a clean look. Door inserts shaped like F15 jet intakes with speaker grill at front end. Luminescent gear knob design follows tail-light design which I propose should glow red to indicate gear change timing. Also consider having the car start when gear knob is touched. Handbrake styled after aircraft throttle and integrated into the arm rest. Colour adjustable passive lighting in the dash sandwich. Seats feature leather ribbons to give the feeling of being suspended, aids cooling too. Dash board controls includes a 'Stealth' button, as seen in some Saab models, allows all non-essential interior lighting to be switched off. Main in car computer control knob integrated into gear lever bracket. Air vent above 3 dials in center console. Tuatara badge on passenger side dash. More to come if I have the time... Added a High-Rez TIFF image to the downloads as well as some military jet inspired colour schemes. Thanks to Sartorius for the reclined figure, The male figure (Carl), although I don't think the smurf blue is hiding the fact that he needs to hit the gym to get rid of that gut :P New thought, to add to the military-esque theme, how about a red colour option for the interior overhead lighting, will give it the extra stealthy feel at night.
