Human History: The Andrea Doria, a renowned Italian liner, was designed in the aftermath of WWII as Italy sought to assert its status as a world power. Emerging from June 16, 1951, she quickly gained international recognition for her sleek lines and modern design, surpassing all other liners in service at that time. Additionally, her interior featured an impressive collection of Italian artifacts and art, earning her the nickname "the floating art museum." On July 26, 1956, while nearing completion of her voyage to New York, she navigated through thick fog when suddenly colliding with the Swedish-American liner Stockholm on its side. The collision remains a topic of debate to this day, with many still questioning the circumstances surrounding the accident. Although the Stockholm managed to stay afloat and make its way back to New York, it took the Andrea Doria 11 hours to succumb to the damage, resulting in one of the most well-documented liner sinkings in history due to her proximity to New York City at the time. News planes captured her final moments as she sank beneath the surface. Model: This is the hull with spine and bulkheads. The model is divided into sections, designed to facilitate a 1/200 scale build, resulting in a finished product approximately 3.5 feet long. To achieve this shape, foam was inserted between the bulkheads, then carefully sanded down to create the hull's profile. Plans are also underway to apply fiberglass to further enhance its durability and appearance. This model can be constructed as either an RC (radio-controlled) or static display model. In order to accurately replicate the Andrea Doria's superstructure, I have included the Foyer and Upper decks in this initial release, considering them integral components of the hull itself. The superstructure is available for viewing on Thingiverse: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3416424 I look forward to sharing the completed model with you all and invite any questions or comments regarding its construction.
