Squirtle known as Zenigame in Japan is a Pokémon species created by Nintendo and Game Freak's Pokémon franchise. Designed by Atsuko Nishida, its name was changed from Zenigame to Squirtle during English localization of the series. In the animated series, Ash Ketchum, Brock, and Misty encounter five mischievous Squirtle known as the Squirtle Squad in their debut episode Here Comes the Squirtle Squad!. Initially portrayed as delinquents, they transform into honorary firefighters after interacting with Ash and his friends.
