Squirtle is a diminutive, light-blue Pokémon bearing a striking resemblance to a turtle. Like turtles, Squirtle has a shell that envelops its body with openings that allow its limbs, tail, and head to be exposed. Uncommonly for a turtle, Squirtle stands on two legs at all times. Special abilities abound in Squirtle, which possesses the Torrent ability, boosting the potency of its water-type attacks by 150% when its health drops below 33%. Squirtle also has a natural talent for shooting water from its mouth, where most of its attacks originate. In response to physical threats, Squirtle retreats into its shell for protection. Evolution is a key aspect of Squirtle's development, as it evolves into Wartortle at level 16 and then into Blastoise at level 36. Game information reveals that Squirtle serves as a starter option in Pokémon Red, Blue, Green, FireRed, and LeafGreen. In the game Yellow, a Squirtle can be received as a gift.
