Squirrel Friendly Bird Feeder
thingiverse
A Bird Feeder That Keeps Squirrels Busy! Bird food goes into the lower housing of this clever device, while squirrel food - usually corn - is stored in the upper housing. When a curious squirrel hangs on to it, the outer shell slides down, blocking access to the bird feeder holes and unlocking those meant for squirrels instead. This innovative feeder keeps those bushy-tailed critters busy and away from the bird food, ensuring that both our feathered friends and their nutty adversaries get what they need. To make this clever mechanism work, you'll need a 20 mm long by 6 mm diameter tension spring. Designed and 3D printed by The Hawks Team at Beecher Road School in Woodbridge, CT as part of the First Lego League 2016 Science Project, this brilliant design is now being shared with all Animal Allies! Print Settings: * Printer Brand: LulzBot * Printer: TAZ 5 * Rafts: Doesn't Matter * Supports: No * Infill: 50% Notes: * Biodegradable, corn-based PLA was used for the prototypes, and we highly recommend it to all Animal Allies! Overview and Background: The Squirrel Friendly Bird Feeder is a clever solution to keep those pesky squirrels from stealing bird food. By storing their favorite snacks in the upper housing, you can keep them busy while your feathered friends enjoy their meal. Lesson Plan and Activity: This project requires assembly, so be prepared to glue some parts together!
