Planting a template for the square foot gardening method based on Mel Bartholomew's book is made easy with this color-coded system. The holes are carefully designed to accommodate various plant counts, including one (using the central hole), four, nine, and sixteen plants per square. Additionally, there are eight holes specifically tailored for beans or peas that require a support net strung down the middle of each square. To create a complete set, you will need: * Two A templates * Two B templates (or one B template and one notched B template for corner usage) * Thirty-seven inserts, consisting of twelve yellow, nine orange, eight blue, and four red * Fourteen dibbles In my setup, I utilized color-coded inserts to differentiate between the various hole patterns. The four-hole pattern was marked with red, while the nine-hole pattern used orange. Yellow (twelve plain inserts and four notched inserts) denoted the sixteen-hole pattern, and blue represented the eight-hole pattern for beans or peas. A single plant per square utilizes the central hole. The dibbles snap securely into place within the holes. To assemble the template, simply glue the four templates together and insert the colored pegs into their respective holes. The notched inserts are designed specifically for corners where overlapping holes occur, while the notched B template accommodates raised bed corners with internal supports that block template access. To use this innovative system, first determine how many plants per square foot you need to accommodate. Then, place the dibbles in the corresponding colored holes and position the template over your desired garden square. Gently press down to create impressions where seeds can be dropped. Cover and water as necessary to ensure healthy growth.
