Inspired by a device from a well-known woodworking tool company, this design helps hold your tape measure when measuring corner to corner to confirm the squareness of a box. The square cut-out goes over the corner, while the slot is for your tape measure. The rotating section allows it to work on rectangles as well as squares. Improved V3 - Printed and confirmed working. There's still room for improvement, but not sure when or if I'll have time. Would love to see someone remix this and fix the remaining issues: The rotating part is very crude and likely to print poorly because it's all 90-degree angles/overhangs. Should be redesigned with bevels instead. The real device this was inspired by has a magnet embedded in the top to help hold your tape measure - would be really easy to add a cut-out, just have to decide on an easy-to-source magnet. Would be nice to make the design properly parametric so it could be resized. Just tossed this together and didn't pay much attention, but most of it would be fairly easy to change. Added a V3 - larger and with a bigger gap between the rotating part. NOT YET TESTED! V2 TESTED - Needs revision! I did a test print of the v2 version last night and confirmed I need to fix a few things on this. Biggest issue is it's too small overall, my guestimate on the size was about 50% off. Second issue is the rotating part apparently doesn't have enough clearance in some areas so it won't turn (which kind of surprised me as I've done other print-in-place designs with less clearance that worked fine). Saw something like this posted on the Facebook MPCNC group and had to whip one up to try. Added a v2 version with an attempt at a rotating center. Even more experimental and untested. I'm tired, and this computer is too slow to properly visualize things...be afraid, be very afraid :D. Printer Settings: Printer Brand: RepRap Printer: Folger Tech 2020 Prusa i3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.25mm Infill: 30% Notes: This is a print-in-place design with moving parts - but fairly large clearance (1mm) on the moving part. Even so, since I didn't bother to angle the bearing surfaces it will probably need a little bit of force to break the rotating part loose. No support or rafts needed, could probably get by with less infill but the rotating part may get damaged when breaking it loose then. Post-Printing: I just stuck my largest screwdriver into the slot from the bottom (the side with the corner cutout) and gave it a twist to break the rotating section free. How I Designed This: The commercial version was posted on the MPCNC Facebook group as something that may be nice for helping to square up the frame. I had a hard time getting my frame squared when I built mine originally, and am getting ready to rebuild the frame larger so this caught my eye. But I plan on resizing my MPCNC sooner than I could have one shipped, and the design looked suitable for 3D printing, so I opened up openSCAD and a few minutes later had something that was looking like it may work. A few more minutes and I had a version that looked like it may work with the rotating section - but the test print showed I hadn't left enough gap for the rotating section and the whole thing was too small. Few adjustments later, and two more cylinders subtracted to make the finger grips, it printed out great!
