The original Sharpmaker kit only offers 15° and 20° options, leaving a gap in the middle that I aimed to fill by creating this 17° add-on base. This base enables you to sharpen your knife at 17° per side, totaling approximately 34°, and is designed for use with the Spyderco Sharpmaker sharpening system. You will need at least the sharpening rods, which can be purchased separately. The base snaps into place within the Sharpmaker plastic cover, providing a secure grip while sharpening. I primarily utilize the flat side of the rods when sharpening, so the rod holes are oriented accordingly. I may introduce a model with reversed rod orientation in the future. I printed my add-on base using PLA with a 0.3 mm layer thickness, and it has performed well thus far. On April 26, 2020, I released an updated version, v2, which features an extended base for enhanced stability. However, this new design requires a significantly larger build area to print successfully.
